Welcome to Class 5. Here is some important information about our class.
The children will need to bring a coat to school every day, which will withstand light rain. During warm weather please also send a sun hat.
We have P.E. lessons on Thursday mornings and Monday afternoons.
Please check that your child has a full P.E kit including socks, a white t-shirt, black shorts and plimsolls, as trainers are unsuitable for our gym; everything should have their name on. If your child wears earrings, it is school policy that these are either removed or covered for P.E. lessons. Please either teach them to do this themselves or remove them before they come to school that day, as we are not allowed to do it for them. Please also make sure that your child brings a bobble on PE days if they have long hair.
We will hear children read in groups and individually regularly in class. They will be given a Reading Record at the beginning of the year which should be brought into school every day. A staff member will make a comment in the Reading Records each week and we would be grateful if you could also write a comment about your child’s reading. Your child will be told which colour reading book to choose and take home to read, although this is not restrictive and is one part of a variety of books that they should read from the school library and at home.
Each Friday we will send home an electronic class newsletter which will show the class blogs for the week and information about homework tasks and projects. The blogs include photographs and details about activities completed in school.
The children have the opportunity to change their library book each Friday afternoon. The children will
only be permitted to take a new book home if they return their current book.
We have a Good Work Assembly every Friday at 9.00am. Each week we select a few children from the class to show their work. If your child is chosen they will be given a letter on the previous Friday and then presented with the Good Work certificate within the assembly. Parents are very welcome to come and watch but we understand many of you work so don’t worry if you can’t make it. If your child has been awarded a certificate for an activity they have done outside of school, e.g. swimming, they can be given to Miss Clayton and these will be presented in the Good Work assembly. These assemblies will last approximately 30 minutes.
We would appreciate payment via ‘School Money’ for school dinners (£2.20 per day). However if you prefer to pay by cash or cheque please send dinner money for the week on a Monday morning in an envelope with your child’s name on and which days they would like school dinners. If you wish you are welcome to pay for several weeks at a time.
We would like to reduce the amount of lost property we accumulate in school. To help us reunite children with lost clothes it is essential they have names on all items of clothing. Please help us by labelling all of your child’s property, including P.E. bags, kits and pack up boxes.
