Cricket Report – Park Grove 109 St Wilfred’s 106. Park Grove win by 3 runs…

With many expectant spectators  watching, the pressure was on! Each team started with 100 runs and Martha was the captain for the match. After winning the toss, Park Grove decided to stick with their original plan of fielding first.

Soon the nerves had disappeared and the team was defending well with an amazing catch from Molly taking 5 points off St Wilfreds total being a particular highlight. Park Grove also bowled brilliantly and led St Wilfred’s to play it safe. Their innings ended on a relatively good score of 106 runs.

Then it was Park Grove’s turn to bat. Tom C and Martha were up first and set the bar high with Martha scoring 2 imperious sixes! From then on the team kept up the enthusiasm and played exceptionally.

But the match was almost over. It was all down to the last over, or even, the last ball. St Wilfreds had a spectacular bowler who kept hitting the wickets taking 5 points off Park Grove’s score. It was a tense moment with only a couple of runs difference between the 2 totals. The final ball was bowled and the teams watched nervously. It was then that the ball clipped Oleg’s bat … it was all down to St Wilfreds wicket keeper. The ball planted itself in the keepers hands but just as Park Grove’s luck ran out……..the ball escaped and was on the ground giving Park Grove the victory!

Final scores were St Wilfreds 106 runs and Park Grove 109! What a match!

A huge well done to all the cricketers: Tom C, Martha, Jacob, Robbie, Molly, Mani, Oleg and Tomas. Keep up the good work!

Thank you to everyone who spent their evening watching and supporting the team.
