Cricket Report – Park Grove 196 Hempland 150. Park Grove win by 46 runs…

Park Grove’s latest cricket league fixture took place on Thursday 18th June against Hempland Primary School. Buoyed by two wins from their opening two fixtures, Park Grove knew this match would be a much stiffer test of their abilities, particularly on a cold day with a chilly breeze. Hempland won the toss and inserted Park Grove into bat. Martha Jones and Tom Carter again got Park Grove off to a flyer, with Martha striking the ball superbly to all parts of the ground with three imperious sixes smashed down the ground in an individual total of 26 runs. Josh Murray and Oliver Owen then came in and hit the accelerator button, sharing a vital unbeaten partnership of 32 runs. Mani Cobb and captain for the day Robby Butler led by example with excellent running between the wickets combined with the odd powerful blow to the boundary. This excellent platform allowed Tomas Wormald and Oleg Jaworski to throw caution to the wind with some big shots in the last few overs to get Park Grove up to a well-crafted total of 196.

Like against Badger Hill, Park Grove’s bowling was excellent from start to finish with Robby and Oleg restricting early scoring with tight lines. Mani and Martha were extremely accurate and posed numerous problems for the Hempland batsmen. The ground fielding and catching was outstanding once again with another stunning diving catch from Tomas being a particular highlight. Eventually Hempland finished on 150 meaning Park Grove won by an impressive 46 runs.

This result means that Park Grove now lead the group table with only one fixture left! An excellent team effort guys!

The Game was really exciting and I thought we weren’t going to win at the beginning of the second part which was when we were bowling but then we got into the swing of things.
