Remember for your next homework project we would like you to choose one famous Victorian to write about in an information booklet.  We will display and use the information booklets during lessons this term.

You can write about any of the famous Victorians, scientists or inventors we have studied in class or somebody completely different. Famous Victorians you may wish to write about are:

  • Queen Victoria herself!
  • Isambard Kingdom Brunel –  Famous engineer, who designed the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Great Western Railway.
  • Christina Rossetti – English poet who wrote a variety of romantic and children’s poems.
  • Alexander Graham Bell – Inventor of the telephone. Many inventors were working on similar ideas at the same time as him, but he was the first one to succeed.
  • Elizabeth Gaskell – British novelist and social historian. Mrs Gaskell’s novels portray the lives of a cross section of Victorian society.
  • Joseph Lister – A surgeon who realised the importance of keeping wounds and equipment clean and germ free during operations.
  • Emily Bronte – Famous author from Haworth, West Yorkshire, who wrote the classic novel Wuthering Heights.
  • Sir Arthur Conan Doyle  – A Scottish physician who was best known as the author of the Sherlock Holmes detective stories.
  • Marie Curie  – Scientist who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry and physics.

You can choose how to organise the information and illustrations within your booklet; it could be as a printed leaflet done on the computer, a booklet of information written on pieces of paper and stapled together or something even more creative! Remember that it  should be interesting to read and look through, as well as useful and informative.

Please have your project ready to present to your class on Thursday 28th January. Good luck – we are looking forward to seeing your finished pieces!
