Kelly McDonald (Training) Parent Governor

After qualifying as a Careers Adviser in 2001, I worked in various schools and colleges around West and South Yorkshire as part of the Connexions service: a government strategy aimed at reducing social exclusion. During this time I started supporting and formally assessing trainee advisers, which lead to a role within an external training team where I became Operations Manager.  In 2005 I began a 12 month contract supporting the development of an adult learning and skills strategy for York with Learning City York (funded through York City Council) which provided an opportunity to learn a huge amount about the educational provision for all ages across the city. This led to project role within Higher York which promoted widening participation and raising aspirations towards higher education for those less likely to consider it. After having my little girl Lola in 2009, I moved back into providing one-to-one careers advice and training with both Hull and the University of York where I’ve had the opportunity to work with schools, students and staff including researchers. I still work at the University of York.
