Park Grove School Council Meeting Minutes 2nd October 2013

Present

Ben Brannigan, Bethan Parkinson, Ellen Jones, Elliott Jones, Fletcher Pendry, Holly Allison, Jacob McCullough, Katarina Savkovic, Katie Clark, Mani Cobb, Manon Hollingworth, Miss Sawyer, Miss Tilbury, Mr Mastrelli, Olivia Bryan, Rylie Ackroyd, Shamim Kennedy, Toby McKee, Travis and William Clark.

Reading of Agenda

Miss Sawyer confirmed the subjects for discussion.

Business

Decide positions

Miss Sawyer outlined the positions that would need to be filled, and the qualities that would be required.

• Chair of School Council (needs to be a good organizer and let everyone have their say).
• Vice-chair of School Council (should not speak over people and gets to do what the chair does).
• Treasurer (needs to be good at maths).
• Secretary (needs to have good computer literacy).
• Chief-bloggers (need to have lots of ideas).
• Special Project Managers (need to have creative ideas and a good imagination).

A number of children applied for positions on the Council and made speeches in support of their application. Miss Sawyer, Miss Tilbury and Mr Mastrelli considered the matter for a short while, and then made their recommendations:

• William and Bethan (Chair)
• Travis (Vice-chair)
• Holly (Secretary)
• Ben (Treasurer)
• Mani, Toby and Olivia (Chief-bloggers)
• Katie and Fletcher  (Special Project Managers)

Some Councillors then expressed their opinions:

• Ben is glad that he is the Treasurer.
• Bethan is glad that she is the Chair, and is happy that William shares the job with her.
• Ellen and Elliot cannot wait for the badges and caps.
• Holly cannot wait to type up all the minutes and agendas.
• Jacob and Katerina are pleased with the jobs that people were given.
• Katie liked the speeches for the positions.
• Olivia is glad that she is one of the Chief-bloggers.
• Shamim likes the school council meetings.
• William cannot believe that he is Chair.

School Council blog

To be discussed on another occasion.

Suggestion boxes

It was agreed that Councillors would bring in their class suggestion boxes for the next meeting. Manon asked if we could make suggestion boxes at home for the benefit of other classes.

Any other business

• It was mentioned that the School Governors are each given a class to get to know.
• Travis suggested that we should take water bottles home after we have used them at school.
• Mani suggested that we should have class pets.
