Park Grove School Council Meeting Minutes 24th September 2013

 

Present

Ben Brannigan, Bethan Parkinson, Ellen Jones, Elliott Jones, Fletcher Pendry, Holly Allison, Jacob McCullough, Katarina Savkovic, Katie Clark, Mani Cobb, Manon Hollingworth, Miss Sawyer, Miss Tilbury, Moya Coughlan, Mr Mastrelli, Olivia Bryan, Rylie Ackroyd, Shamim Kennedy, Travis  and William Clark.

Miss Sawyer confirmed the subjects for discussion.

 

Approval of Previous Meeting’s Minutes

Not applicable as this was the first meeting this school year.

 

Business

·      Introductions

Mr Mastrelli, Miss Sawyer and Miss Tilbury introduced themselves and told the group a little about what they do:

  • Mr Mastrelli is the head of PE and likes maths, sports and travelling.
  • Miss Sawyer is the Headteacher. She likes to play the guitar and used to sing in a band.
  • Miss Tilbury is a School Governor. She goes to assemblies and fairs, and helps Miss Sawyer run the school.

Mention was also made of Mrs Martindale and Miss Slater, both of whom are Children’s Champions.

 

  • Experience so far

Mani and Moya Coughlan were on the School Council last year, and are advisors this year. They gave us an overview of the working of the School Council, and some of things that they did for charity. Some of the children did a pyjama day to raise money for Save The Children

 

·      Positions needed

Miss Sawyer outlined the positions that would need to be filled:

  • Chair of School Council (the person in charge)
  • Vice-chair of School Council (assistant to the chair, and replacement in his or her absence)
  • Treasurer (in charge of accounting and banking of monies)
  • Secretary (writes important information down during the meeting.)
  • Chief Bloggers (writes and updates blogs about four times a week for the school website)

 

·      Speeches next meeting

Children should come prepared to make a speech in support of their application for a position.

 

·      Profile of councillors and advisors for next meeting

Ben likes sports, including cycling, and travelling.

Bethan likes acting, and sings in a band.

Ellen likes climbing trees.

Elliott likes football.

Fletcher likes building with Lego.

Holly likes going on adventures.

Jacob likes football.

Katarina likes spending time with her little sister and big brother.

Katie likes gymnastics.

Mani likes computer games.

Manon likes cooking.

Moya likes singing, dancing and table tennis.

Olivia likes dressing up.

Rylie likes horse riding.

Shamim likes playing with friends.

Toby (to confirm).

Travis likes swimming, and would like to be a policeman.

William likes music.

 

 

·      Suggestion Boxes

It was agreed that School Councillors should encourage other children to use their class suggestion boxes.

 

·      Any other business

Thanks to Miss Tilbury for attending, and contributing to, the meeting.

It was agreed that there should be more competitions, more activities during lunch, the Press and local radio will be advised about the School Council, and children should be discouraged from climbing trees in the school grounds.

Wednesday 2nd October at 09:00 in the boardroom.
