Another fun filled week!

The children have been finding out about Eskimos this week and telling stories about life in the Arctic.
They have made lots of different creations with the Giant Clixi and worked together to build some BIG models.

In Maths we have been learning about subtraction and this will continue next week. I wonder if you can find some ways of taking away at home. Maybe, count how many peas you have left, then eat one! How many are left now? In literacy we used the nursery rhyme dice to sing different rhymes. Someone changed ’Miss Polly had a dolly’ and sang about Mrs Jolly! What a super rhyme it was. Maybe you can think of different words that rhyme… like polly, dolly and jolly! We have really enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. The children particularly liked cooking stir fry vegetables and noodles, learning a song about how people celebrate Chinese New Year, making dragons and lanterns, and using chopsticks.  Some of the children were brilliant at using them!

Next week we will be looking at how animals near our homes survive the winter. We’ll be making bird feeders to hang in the outdoor area, building a bird hide and learning how to use the new woodwork area. We’ll be
continuing to learn how to use ‘Beebot’, a programmable robot and learning about subtraction.

Homework
This weekend you may like to go on a walk and see what signs of bird life you can find. Maybe you’ll find a feather… I wonder which bird it comes from? Maybe you’ll hear a bird, feed the ducks, or find a nest. Maybe you could draw or write something to share with your friends at school.
Don’t forget your handwriting and maths challenges too.

Requests for next week
Please can all children bring a yoghurt pot in on Monday to make bird feeders.
Also any boxes, kitchen roll tubes, plastic containers for the junk modelling area would be greatly received.

Monday: handwriting books in school for new letter sounds
Tuesday: wellies for Forest Schools
Wednesday: PE kit
Thursday: Maths Challenge Books returned to school
Friday: library books
Stay and Play at 2.30pm – please sign up if you haven’t done so already. It’s been lovely talking to everyone and the children have really enjoyed sharing what they do at school. Thanks you for coming.
