I am Tillmann Jacobi. I became a Governor at Park Grove in 2014 and will, most formally, be involved in the responsibility for any Safeguarding issues at the school, and will also support in appeals processes. I am a GP in York and currently work in a number of roles in various settings, e.g. help out at practices as a “locum”-GP when needed and do regular shifts at the “Out of Hours Service” based at York Hospital. Apart from this I do GP-appraisal work and contribute to some of the initiatives of the local health care organisations aiming to deliver a good health service despite the enormous financial pressures on the NHS. I used to provide some medical care at Bootham School for a number of years and gained experience at “Limetrees”, the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry service in York.
School Governance is a completely unfamiliar territory for me, because, to my knowledge, there is no real equivalent to it in Germany, where I originally come from. Having said that, I could not think of a better primary school than Park Grove to support as a Governor and feel that I have joined a great team. Our two children love the school and the creative approach to learning and development. My aim is to help its smooth and successful running, to keep its liberal “spirit” up and the people and children in it happy, healthy and as free-thinking, independent, self-sufficient and socially aware as possible.
The time in primary school is a precious and sensitive phase for children as well as for their parents, and I feel strongly that any effort to help this to be or to become a truly great time is naturally worth it and will benefit everybody.
