Wigginton Tournament – The Report…

FOOTBALL GALA!

OUR TEAM HAXBY TOWN under 10s

My day started.I woke up.

I felt excited about going to the famous Wigginton Grasshoppers tournament which happens only once a year.

Teams from all around the north of England came including teams from Leeds,Scarborough and Middlesbrough who normally put up a good fight.

When I had put my football kit on my dad shouted “come on Dan we need to go”

When we drove to the ground  where the matches were to be played, we found all the teams were put into two groups, group A and group B. We were in group A with a number of very good teams.

When we finally played our first match after a long wait, we drew 1-1 with a team from Scarborough called Phoenix FC.

Games continued to come thick and fast.We started to pass more and played as a team and started to win matches.When we played Strensall in the third  group game we were 1 nil down with only 3 minutes to play.We then won a corner which was floated into the box.The keeper pushed it away with his fingertips and it came to me and I kept my eye on the ball and headed it into the net 1-1.Then  in the last minute we scored a winner.

We qualified for the next stage which were  the quarter finals.We played Strensall A team who are a very good side.The match ended nil nil so it had to go to penalties which was very nerve wracking.We are not the best at penalties !

In the shootout Louie made an awesome save and  both Kyle and Louie scored their penalties which got us through to the semi final.

The dramatic semi final was against York RI. The match was very close and we played well. At halftime the score was nil nil. The second half started at a fast pace with some crazy tackles from York RI.We then won a free kick which was heading towards the opposition’s goalkeeper but one of the York RI’s Defenders stuck his foot out to clear it and accidentally put it in his own net which luckily got us the win 1 Nil.

Then the Final came against Wigginton Grasshoppers who had an excellent team.We tried our best but they were too strong for us and we lost the match 3-0

But on the plus side, we got to the final which was a MASSIVE achievement for us all.
