Welcome to Class 1. Here is some important information about our class.
In Class 1 the teacher is Miss Glaholm.
Alternative pick up arrangements
If you have made arrangements for your child to go home with someone different it is essential you let us know. Please Bloomz as soon as possible, preferably the day before, to allow us to receive the message in good time. For urgent changes on the day, please ring the office.
We do not have a school uniform at Park Grove but please ensure your child is dressed sensibly and wearing clothes they can manage independently e.g. elasticated trousers, shoes with Velcro. Please ensure everything is named and it would be very helpful if they could practise dressing and undressing themselves, particularly putting on their own coat.
Children go out to play in all weather. Please ensure they have a warm coat/hat/gloves in winter and a sunhat and sun-cream (applied at home before school) in summer.
Each child needs to have a P.E. kit in school at all times. We have a dress code for this for safety reasons:
Everything should have their name on.
If your child wears earrings, it is school policy that these are either removed or covered for P.E. lessons. Please remove them before they come to school that day, as we are not able to do it for them. This also includes other jewellery such as bracelets and necklaces. Pe kits will be left in school and we will send them home each half term for washing.
Children may either bring a packed lunch or have a free school lunch. All children in Reception and Key Stage One are entitled to a free lunch as part of the government’s initiative to have healthy lunches. The three choices for school lunches are hot dinners, jacket potato or a ‘grab bag’ which is a cold lunch with a sandwich. If you choose to send your child with a packed lunch this should also be healthy and not include cans or glass bottled drinks. The school also has a strict no nuts policy due to allergies (this includes spreads such as Nutella).
Please bring a water bottle, labelled with your child’s name into class. We encourage the children to drink lots of water during the day. Any plastic bottle will do and they must only contain water. These will be sent home every day for washing.
Children will receive a free piece of fruit and a drink of milk each morning. This snack will be available throughout the morning session.
Please do not allow your child to bring toys into school. These can get damaged or lost which children find very distressing. We have lots of things in school to play with!
Due to Covid we are unable to send homework and spellings home as we have done in the past. Each Friday we will bloomz a maths and a reading activity using the online platforms, as well as another task linked to our current topic. You can also refer to the topic leaflets which are sent out at the beginning of each half term. A reminder that work can’t currently be sent in to school but photos of work completed can be sent to use via Bloomz or email.
We will hear children read, in groups and individually, regularly in class. Due to covid we will send one reading book home each Tuesday and these will be recorded in their Reading Record. The level of the book will be appropriate to the level of the book they are reading in school which is in line with comprehension as well as fluency. Your children can also read books online using the online platform Reading Eggs.
If possible please hear you child read for ten minutes each day as this makes a big difference to the progress they make.
All of the Reception children go outside for Forest Schools on a Thursday afternoon. Please make sure your child has a suitable waterproof jacket every Thursday, warm clothing for in the winter and a pair of wellington boots that can be kept at school.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Glaholm and the Class 1 team
