EYFS newsletter 24th January 2014

There has been great excitement in Class 1 and Class 2 this week as Jack Frost finally arrived! The children have been fascinated by the frozen leaves and water in the outdoor classroom, and by the patterns the frost made on all the different surfaces.
In class the children are still enjoying the Arctic role-play area. We now have now pet penguins and a pet seal who are needing lots of looking after (and trips out in the sledge!).
Next week we will be carrying on looking at polar places and winter, and on Thursday and Friday we will be learning about the Chinese New Year!
On Friday we are asking that the children wear something red to celebrate Chinese New Year.
To help develop fine motor skills and satisfy their love for mixing things together, the children have had lots of fun in the vegetable tray. They have been cutting up cabbage, carrots and courgettes, adding water and mixing to make soup. Delicious!
Warm clothing
We are continuing to go outside to learn, so please can children bring warm outdoor clothes, especially for Forest Schools. This means a hat as well as a coat.
Don’t forget to name it please!

The Design Area and Construction Areas have been busy this week. We’ve had rockets, hamster homes, people and aeroplanes, as well as lots of different constructions in the Construction Area. We’re really pleased to see that the children are beginning to write more labels for their models, letters to friends and family and invitations to parties. We’ve also made a non-fiction book this week, which I’m sure your child will show you if you ask!
