BUSINESS

Register of Attendees

Holly made a note of those present.

Meeting Mrs Helliwell

  • Mrs Helliwell asked each School Council member their name, what class they were in, what they liked and their position in the School Council. Mrs Helliwell introduced herself and said that she had been a Governor since December and her job for the past ten years had been helping schools. Before that she was the Headteacher at two schools and introduced School Councils to each of them. She likes the School Council here because the ideas are great and we have all the representatives that are needed.
  • School Council members told Mrs Helliwell how they got elected and explained that they gave a speech to their class about how they could improve the school and make sure that no one is left out.
  • The School Council was asked why they had appeared in the local newspaper. The explanation was that the school needed a new Governor, and were hoping to attract candidates. Furthermore, someone called Mr Cloves had applied and the School Council was going to meet him.
  • Mrs Helliwell was told what the School Council had done so far, such as writing letters to parents, the PTA, a couple of teachers and the caretaker, as well as organizing events and deciding how funds should be spent.
  • Mrs Helliwell asked Mr Mastrelli what his role was. He said that he was the Head of PE and his role was running the School Council along with Miss Sawyer. He liked listening to all of the pupils’ ideas and reading their blogs. He also mentioned that he would be the chief School Council person next year.

Suggestion boxes

Class2 suggested that we should have more time to eat our lunch. Miss Sawyer said that she cannot extend the lunchtime hour too much because she would have to make the day longer to fit all of the lessons in.

Class 6 suggested that the cloakrooms outside the classes had more pegs in them. Miss Sawyer said that it was already done.

Class 5 asked if the water fountain could be fixed. Miss Sawyer said that we can’t, but the classrooms have cups to take drinks with.

Class 8 asked if the School could have a boxing club. Mr Mastrelli said it would be quite possible that the School could have one but maybe later on in the year.

Class 9 asked if the pupils could eat outside in the summer. Miss Sawyer said that it could probably happen.

Playground equipment update

It was mentioned that the new playground equipment would be coming soon.

Any other business

It was said that Mrs Helliwell would probably not be able to come to all of the meetings. It was also said that School Council members should remember to remind their classes about bringing their water bottles into school.
