Ice-cream and archives!
Posted On 03 Jul 2015
Yesterday, in the scorching hot weather, Class 6 ventured to the Museum Gardens for a delicious ice-cream. Thank-you to the PTA for paying for this lovely treat!
We then went to read the ‘Chocolate Letters’ at the archive in the library. We were so pleased to handle such old documents and read what the men thought about the chocolates that the Lord Mayor of York sent to the soldiers at Christmas 1914. We even saw some of the things we had learnt about in class mentioned in the letters such as Lord Kitchener. What a lovely trip to help us understand about York in the past!

The letters were very interesting. It’s so sad to think the people who wrote the letters have died now 🙁
I know! 🙁 🙁
I loved looking at the letters because some of them really told a lot in their letter. And it was also amazing to see the point of view from the people who didn’t get chocolate.
