Ladder League Final Report – 12.11.14

The grand final of the Table Tennis Ladder League started off terrifically, with the first serve from Jacob. Judging by the vocally vociferous audience, it seemed like this set would end in victory for Jacob, but this was misleading. After the first few serves, the tension appeared to mount on him, and despite his great efforts, his triumph was put into doubt. However, William kept his cool, regardless of the sea of eyes locked onto Jacob and himself, resulting in a well-earned first set to William, 11-7.

Succeeding a much-desired break, our contestants strolled to the opposite ends of the table, with a sense of exuberance in the air, which ensued a new and exciting set. The first serve went to William, but by then, Jacob had got used to the setup and was upping his game tremendously, ensuring his second set triumph of 11-3. The comeback was well and truly on!

For the final set, the tension escalated unbearably, as well as the amount of gasps and cheers from the audience. Back and forward, back and forward, the ball sped over the net with perfect accuracy. Someone was going to lose concentration, but who would it be? However it never seemed to happen. Sadly, there could only be one winner and towards the end of the set, William slowly but surely edged his way to victory, until 10-9, the winning serve. The audience held it’s breath, and within a blink of an eye, it was all over. The golden Ladder League trophy of 2014 went to William for his astonishing win, 11-9. Of course, a massive well done to our runner-up Jacob, for putting up a thrilling fight, the finals keep on getting better and better. I wonder who will come face to face next year?!
