Blog 8 October 2013 Phonics evening
Hi everyone
I went to the parent’s evening last night which consisted of a presentation by the school staff on phonics. It was very well attended by parents and by staff and I thought the quality of the presentation was excellent. It was interesting, it was fun, it was participative and was obviously enjoyed by those attending, including me.
I had only a very sketchy idea, before yesterday, of what phonics was all about but after my initial bewilderment, I came to realise that it it is a fun way of teaching children to read.
I would like to repeat the message that was given to parents to encourage their children in their reading by reading to and with them at home and helping them with their words. Miss Sawyer has already thanked the staff involved in the presentation and I would add mine also on behalf of all the governors. Well done!
