Crazy cubes!

Today, the Year 5’s investigated the nets of cubes and cuboids, exploring the different range of nets that work and don’t work.

Year 5 – what did you find out from your investigation? What features of a cube net do you need to have?

  1. Alexander Savkovic (playground buddy)

On the next you need to have cube sticking out on either side (left picture of nets that do work). If you don’t do this you will not be able to create a 3D cube as it will have gaps in (right picture of nets that don’t work).

  2. Sophie

You need to have six squares otherwise it won’t make a cube.

  3. joe.a

you need 4 or 3 squares in a row and to bits sticking out on both sides.

  4. Ella

I learnt that a net for a cube can has 6 faces but they have to have at least 2 cubes sticking out from the sides and they can be in any formation. I enjoyed making miniature nets and then cutting them out of squared pieces of paper. I liked lesson!

  5. Mollie

Most nets have four squares that go up the middle. Only a couple don’t.

  6. Betsy

I never knew that there was so many ways to make a cube
