English

In English we are going to have a go at writing our own instruction text for making a gingerbread reindeer. We made the gingerbread reindeer last week but I wonder if we can remember how we did this? Can you write a list of the main features we always need to use when writing instructions? Draw a picture of your gingerbread reindeer to stick into your instructions.

Maths

In maths this week we will be doing some real life problem solving and helping to organise the Christmas Party. There is so much maths involved! Can you think of any other Christmas activities where you need to be able to do maths?  We will also be looking at all 4 operations in maths +, –, × and ÷ and working out the missing numbers in calculations, for example 30 – £ = 24, £ ÷ 2 = 6. Remember to check and see if the answer makes sense – if you take away you should end up with a number smaller than the one you started with!

Topic

We will be looking at materials that toys are made from. Have a look at your toys and see if you can sort them into different categories. What are they made from? Which is the most popular material? Those of you who have babies in the family can compare their toys. Are they made from similar materials as yours?  Write and draw your findings to share with us in class.

Don’t forget your Nativity costume if you need one and keep practising those songs and line. This is the week! We are so excited to see the final performances; you have all worked so hard.

If you have any spare and old shirts we would love to have them to use as aprons within art. Please could you also bring in any old boxes or cereal boxes.

We’ve had a bit of a lull on the class blog. Please keep checking it and adding your comments – we love to read your ideas and find out what you think. www.parkgroveprimary.co.uk
