Stepping back into Victorian York…

To ignite our learning and interest of our Victorians topic, Key Stage 2 enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Castle Museum to see Victorian York brought to life.

Having studied some of the shops featured in the museum in class, some classes enjoyed learning more about them and getting to actually go inside some of them such as the grocers shop and the drapers shop. Classes were also given the opportunity to learn about the British Empire and the Great Exhibition held at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park. The children even carefully handled some Victorian coins and artefacts. Some classes were also able to investigate life in Victorian Britain by trying out life as a Victorian school child – in a real Victorian classroom with a real Victorian teacher, yes Sir!
