Summer Fair – A Great Affair!

Despite the rain rearing it’s ugly head at the 11th hour and the fair having to move indoors, this event was a fantastic success and such a wonderful atmosphere. The two hours shot by in a flash. There was just so much to see and do. So many varied activities and something for everyone. The tombolas were as popular as ever. The lazer quest and other inflatable activities were busy throughout the evening catering for all ages – thank you so much to Koosh for overseeing this popular and busy section of the fair. The super soaker was indeed a hive of activity. Mr Baines and Mr Hodge in particular seemed to rise to the super soaker challenges and were in their element.

The police had a very informative stand focussing on cycling with lots of crime prevention information. It was fun that the children were able to have a go at finger printing. The kitchen was a hive of activity all night, many thanks to Fran for her expertise and support and helping the PTA to serve an array of hot food and drink. Which takes us directly to the bar, again with a fine selection of drinks on offer and it was a hive of activity all night.

The strawberries  and cream organised by Phoenix was just divine (thank you so much). People were walking about all evening with the most delicious looking plates of strawberries, meringues or scones (or all three) plus cream – irresistible!!

The cake stall was a sell out, thank you to all who brought in cakes etc. The choice on offer was excellent and varied as a result with some good bike themes going on. Talking of bike themes, the new wheel of fortune game was a great feature at the event, as was ‘splat the ratatouille’, it certainly added a percussive touch to the affair with splats and spinning sounds heard all night.

Bang hair did an amazing job delivering various items from their beauty menu. The children seemed in their element being painted, chalked, polished, transferred and the like. In fact, this stall could have gone on until midnight! Perhaps Bang would have done justice in the ‘lipstick on the teacher’ department, as there was much hilarity going on in this ‘pin the tail’ on the donkey type game, however ‘lipstick on the teacher’ was so much more fun!!

The School Council ran ‘beat the goalie’  with the help and support of Total Sports. There was a great atmosphere as children tried their best to get the ball in the basket ball net. It was much harder then it first looked, but it was great to see so many children (and adults) determined to succeed.

The craft stall was a wonderful hub for the children to get stuck in and create some lovely things. Thank you to the teachers who ran this stall who had provided a number of imaginative craft activities to suit the range of ages and tastes.

Other wonderful stalls were the lucky dip, hair feathering (something completely new), chocolate chess, bric a brac and the peaceful book stall where one could immerse oneself away from the crowds. The ice cream van was also fantastic fun as children from the school (and their parent/carer) were there to serve up a variety of delicious ice creams.

GIANT BIKES did an amazing job all night. They gave out information, ran the bike trials, held a score tally of the fastest bikers and assisted with the best dressed bike parade – a wonderful array of uniquely dressed bikes. Their knowledge and expertise helped to pick the winners. They were so wonderful and positive with the children all night, their love of bikes and cycling was infectious!

A mention is an absolute must with regards to the new PTA committee who have worked tirelessly to ensure this event continued. They worked both behind, and on the scenes all night ensuring that everything was in place every step of the way. The amount of thought and work that went into the event previous to this was huge. Having the Tour de France theme was really the icing on the cake with some very memorable moments and events. It really was a fantastic evening.

Finally a thank you once again to the staff for their enthusiasm and support which is always in abundance. Thank you so much to Gary (site manager) who cheerfully wore so many hats to get the show on the road. Thank you to the parents/carers and children for their abundance of interest, ideas and help. Last but not least to Mrs Sawyer who is passionate that Park Grove has a strong and vibrant PTA and is always so extremely supportive, committed and enthusiastic.
