On Monday 13th January, our fantastic Young Voices choir headed to Sheffield Arena for an epic day of rehearsal and preparation for the special YV Concert. We have been learning and practising the song ready for this day ever since the end of October so we were really looking forward it!!

“I have been glued to my computer learning all the songs and dances!” Said Arriannah, year 4.

There were a range of songs to learn, with lots of lyrics to memorise as well as some dances! “I liked the Queen medley because it’s very inspirational and it’s nice to remember Freddie Mercury,” said Elliott, year 5.

Charlie, year 4, said, “My favourite song was Frightfest because it was cool!”

When we got to Sheffield Arena, we rehearsed all 14 tracks and the dances with David Lawrence, the principal conductor, and the special guests we would be performing with in the concert. These special guests included Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet and Ruti, the winner of The Voice 2018!

“Ruti was amazing – I loved her new song ‘I couldn’t do this without you’ which we sang with her!” Announced Pearl, year 5, on the coach home.

“I liked the lights because they looked spectacular and I loved all the colours,” exclaimed Desi, year 5!

Emi, year 5, said, “My favourite part of the entire concert was the fantastic dance group Urban Strides. They did lots of amazing and cool dances as a group!”

The actual concert was spectacular – we hadn’t realised how everything would look with the fancy lights shining everywhere and how amazing we all looked when shaking our special Young Voices torches. Those who hadn’t been before were amazed at the other acts we saw. They didn’t know we would be watching other performers as part of the concert, as it wasn’t just us just singing (even though that was a large part of it!) Everyone who has been part of Young Voices this year and went to the concert enjoyed it and would recommend you and other children to try it!

“I just loved all of it because it was just so exciting and massive!” declared Luke, year 6.

Matthew said, “I really enjoyed the pop medley, which happens every time!”
