Football Match Report – Park Grove 4 St Wilfrid’s 0

Park Grove’s fifth football league fixture took place on a slightly murky Tuesday afternoon at home against St Wilfred’s Primary School. After last week’s fantastic results, Park Grove continued their recent goal spree with a direct corner from Louie Powell going right through the keeper to give the home side the lead. Soon after, excellent midfield passing between Jake Coulby-Ackroyd and Chelsea Haskins created space for Louie Powell to unleash a left foot rocket to double Park Grove’s lead. Just before the half time whistle, another threatening set piece resulted in a tap in for Ben Bellerby at the back post, his second goal in two matches. This meant Park Grove held a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time.

The second half was a more even affair with St Wilfrid’s displaying their attacking prowess only to be blunted by the excellent defence of Tom Carter and Ben Bellerby and the fantastic saves from Harry Metcalf. Eventually a goal came for Park Grove, albeit rather fortuitously, from the back of Jake Coulby-Ackroyd after a clearance was blocked in the area. The final score was Park Grove 4 St Wilfrid’s 0.

The star player in this match was Louie Powell, whose two goals and excellent link up play was vital in this victory. Harry Metcalf and Ben Bellerby also demonstrated their resolute defensive qualities in the second half to help Park Grove keep a fourth clean sheet in five matches.

Our next league match will be away from home against Fishergate this coming Thursday.
