Football Report – Dunnington 3 Park Grove 3

After a four month winter break, Park Grove’s football season resumed on Thursday afternoon with an away league fixture against Dunnington Primary School. In front of a packed crowd, Park Grove started strongly with lovely interplay between Robby Butler and Louie Powell resulting in the latter notching his first league goal of the season with a delightful left-footed finish. That same combination again worked effectively when a quick Robby throw-in resulted in a well-placed looping header from Louie Powell into the corner of the net – 2-0 Park Grove. However before the end of the half, Dunnington scored an excellent team goal to halve the deficit.

Despite early Park Grove pressure in the second half, Dunnington equalized when a catalogue of ricochets resulted in a somewhat fortuitous finish. However a fabulous finish from Kyle Wilce, his sixth league goal in four outings, seemed to have tipped the scales in Park Grove’s favour. Unfortunately with less than three minutes remaining, a quick break away resulted in a third goal for Dunnington. The final score was Park Grove 3 Dunnington 3.

Man of the Match was Louie Powell, whose brace and direct and tricky runs caused the Dunnington defence numerous problems throughout the whole match. Tom Carter’s calm debut in defence was another positive sign for the team.

The fixtures keep coming with a double header against Lord Deramores on Tuesday and a home match away Acomb on Thursday too.
