Football Report – Park Grove 1 Dunnington 0

Park Grove’s second football league fixture took place on last Thursday afternoon at home against Dunnington Primary School. As per usual this match took place in front of a well-supported and calm crowd. Unlike many Park Grove Football matches, the match started off at a rather subdued pace with little chances despite Park Grove doing most of the positive pressing in and around the Dunnington penalty area. Eventually the game sprung to life and within two minutes only the crossbar denied Robby Butler a stunning solo effort from 30 yards and then the Dunnington keeper made a fantastic reaction save to deny what seemed to be a certain goal from Kyle Wilce. Park Grove were upping the ante but several brave blocks ensured the end of the first half was goalless.

The scoreline may have suggested a close game but Park Grove were clearly dominating with the calm and cultured possession football from previous matches again evident for all spectators to see. Eventually the dominace produced a goal, an inswigning corner was half cleared which left a bit of space for substitute Ben Bellerby’s angled drive from 20 yards, which bounced awkwardly in front of the goalkeeper and then nestled in to the back of the net. One nil Park Grove. Despite the cushion of a goal lead, Park Grove continued to attack and further efforts from Robby Butler and Dan Oglesby were extremely close to adding the crucial second goal. Ultimately a second goal wasn’t forthcoming, although it wasn’t for the lack of trying, and Park Grove held on comfortably to record a first league win of the season.

Star players were Robby Butler, who was once again the heartbeat of many of Park Grove’s effective attacks and his energetic performance had everything bar an individual goal. Louie Powell and Lucas Torres both had excellent games once again and Harry Metcalf’s second clean sheet in as many matches showed his excellent form.

All in all this was another very promising performance from Park Grove and their season continues to go from strength to strength.
