Football Report – Park Grove 2 St Wilfrid’s 1

On a murky Thursday afternoon, Park Grove played their second league fixture of the season at home against St Wilfrid’s Primary School. In rather tricky conditions, Park Grove started the match strongly with possession football in the middle of the park being the main focal point of the match. However just before half time, a corner from Louie Powell deliciously curled into the back of the net via a deflection to give Park Grove a 1-0 half time lead.

The second half was a very even affair with chances at both ends, one particular turn and shot from Kyle Wilce, which hit the post, being particular unlucky. On the break, St Wilfrid’s managed to grab an equalising goal but Park Grove’s pressure and fighting spirit eventually proved fruitful as a long range piledriver from Jake Coulby-Ackroyd nestled into the back of the net to give the home team a 2-1 victory.

There were many star performers from this match, including an impressive debut from Kian Kennedy but shading the man of the match award was Mani Cobb, whose incisive passing and determination to win the ball back, was pivotal in Park Grove gaining a positive foothold in the match.

The football season now goes on a winter break with matches recommencing in March.

I cant believe I hit the post twice but in the end we all played well and we deserved to win that match and we did win that match. I feel proud off the team and I feel proud off myself for helping the team win.
