Football Report – Park Grove 3 Fishergate 0

Park Grove’s opening football league fixture took place on Thursday afternoon at home against Fishergate Primary School. In front of a packed crowd, the first half started positively for Park Grove and within five minutes, they took the lead courtesy of a well-placed finish by Louie Powell, after fine work by Ben Bellerby from a corner. Soon after another lightning quick counter attack enabled Kyle Wilce to wriggle free inside the area and another fine finish nestled into the bottom left hand corner. 2 nil to Park Grove at half time.

Park Grove again took control in the second half with one stunning volley from Reuben Pugh nearly resulting in the goal of the season. Eventually the third goal was forthcoming, with Lucas Torres and Ben Brannigan combining well for Kyle Wilce, who again was completely unmarked, to rifle home from the centre of the goal. The final whistle went soon after – a 3 nil victory for Park Grove.

The man of the match was undoubtedly Louie Powell whose drive and goal threat from midfield was superb. Kyle Wilce chipped in with two super finishes and Ben Brannigan industry from midfield was also impressive.

All in all a pleasing start to the league. Our next game is against St Wilfrid’s on Thursday 5th November. I’m sure there will be fireworks in that game!
