Helen Thomson – Co-opted Governor
My name is Helen Thomson and I was co-opted as a governor of Park Grove in September 2022.
Since 1999, I have been a secondary school English teacher (latterly a Head of English), working in both England and in South Australia. At present, I am taking a break from the classroom to complete a PhD in Education at the University of York exploring the experiences of boys studying English.
While I am originally from Glasgow, York has become my home. I am delighted to be able to
contribute to the local education community and to Park Grove, the school which two of my
godchildren attend and love.
When not teaching or studying, I enjoy reading, playing the piano and the bassoon, going to the
cinema, travelling and gardening. I also follow Scottish rugby and English cricket avidly, although that is sometimes a more painful experience!
