Homework

Project
Remember for your next homework project we would like you to choose one famous Victorian to write about in an information booklet.  We will display and use the information booklets during lessons this term.

Famous Victorians you may wish to write about are:

  • Queen Victoria herself!
  • Isambard Kingdom Brunel Famous engineer, who designed the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Great Western Railway.
  • Alexander Graham Bell Inventor of the telephone. Many inventors were working on similar ideas at the same time as him, but he was the first one to succeed.
  • Joseph Lister A surgeon who realised the importance of keeping wounds and equipment clean and germ free during operations.
  • Lord Shaftsbury A politician who helped to improve children’s lives during Victorian times. •Charles Dickens A novelist who wrote many famous books that we still enjoy today such as Oliver Twist.
  • Robert Peel Prime minister twice during the Victorian times. He created Britain’s first ever Police force.

You can choose how to organise the information and illustrations within your booklet. Try to think creatively about the presentation of your work. Remember that it needs to appeal to other children your own age and should be interesting to read and look through, as well as useful and informative.

Please have your project ready to present to your class on Friday 29th January. Good luck and we are looking forward to seeing your finished pieces.
