Homework 21st October

English

This week we will conclude our poetry unit by letting the children choose the type of poem we would like to write. The children will then plan their poem and write it after practising the poem lines verbally. In addition to this, the children will write a simple recount about our Key Stage harvest festival. Please start to think about which poem you would like to write, what you would like to include in your poem? Can you write down any WOW words that would make your poem interesting?

Reading journals:

Look at the list of words in the back of the journal. Tick them if you can find them in a book. You can do this activity as often as you wish.

Maths

In maths we will be continuing our work on addition and subtraction and using 2 numbers to make as many different number sentences as we can. E.g. from a 3 and 4 we can make

3 + 4=7, 4 + 3 = 7, 7 – 3 = 4, 7 – 4 = 3. Can you try some at home?

We will also be looking at how objects turn – is it around a line (door) or a point (scissors)? Look around your home for objects which turn and try to work out how they do it.

Topic

Thank you for all your fantastic work on our ‘Getting to know you’ topic. It was great to see how many family trees came back and listen to the children explain all about their extended families.

Next half term’s topic is toys. As well as looking at old toys and the materials that toys are made from we will be going to the CastleMuseum on Tuesday 12th November for a toy workshop. Please look out for the letter on Monday. Your help will be much appreciated.

It’s great to see so many comments on the blog now. Well done. If you haven’t had the chance yet please go to www.parkgroveprimary.co.uk We’d love to find out what you are doing in half term.
