Learning about our bodies!

In classes 7, 8 and 9 our science topic is Animals including Humans, and we have been learning all about how our bodies work.
We have studied the circulatory system and found out how oxygen and nutrients are transported around the body via our blood vessels. We discovered that our arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart and lungs around the body and our veins transport it back.
To help us remember this, we created life size replicas of the circulatory system, demarcating the heart, lungs, veins and arteries onto an outline of one member of our group. The children then fed back to each other, noting comments about what was accurate about the diagrams and what could be improved.

We’ve also been exploring what happens to our heart when we exercise and have investigated the effects of exercise on the body.

In PE we carried out a range of exercises and activities and measured our pulse rate after the activity, then again after a minute of rest. We compared this to our resting heart rate and have thought about ways to display our data, creating charts and graphs to enable the results to be read clearly then explained our findings.
