Netball tournament at Joseph Rowntree School, Thursday 5th March 2015.

Park Grove took two eager teams to the yearly tournament at Joseph Rowntree School. Ava was the captain for Team L and Elly was captain for Team M.

Team L started by playing New Earswick Primary and pleasingly won 2-1. A great start and promising form shown from all of the players, particularly in defence. The team went on to play Ralph Butterfield and after a very close game, unfortunately lost 4-2. Next PG played Headlands Primary and won very convincingly – an astonishing 8-0! Fabulous shooting was displayed by Devi and Zuzanna. After a short break in the freezing weather, Team L played Wigginton and this was the decider – whoever won this match would go through to another tournament later in the year. It was a close game and Park Grove kept up the high standard of play that they had shown throughout. Sadly, Wigginton ended up winning 5-2 and went through to the next Tournament, meaning that Park Grove Team L came third out of five teams in their pool. A brilliant result for a worthy team.

Team M played in a separate group and started by playing New Earswick. The children started on form and drew 2-2. The team then played Ralph Butterfield and Oleg secured both goals for the team, winning 2-0. Martha then scored a superb netball hat trick when the team played Headlands, winning 3-0. The children then re-played all three teams, winning against New Earswick 3-0; a 2-2 draw against Ralph Butterfield and a second win against Headlands 4-0. Lauren and captain Elly managed to score the majority of the goals and showed that they had solid nerves when it counted. The children won their group which was incredibly well deserved as they worked hard as a team and really supported one another.

Overall the tournament was great fun and a tremendous experience for all of our netball players. Ava and Elly were epic captains and did us proud!

The netball teams have friendly matches next against Hempland Primary School on Monday, at home.

The Netball Committee would like to end by thanking Jacob’s sister, Holly Martindale, for helping coach the team into being the fabulous players that they now are. Also a huge thank-you to the School Council, Miss Sawyer and Mr Mastrelli for raising the funds to pay for the new school netball kit. Miss Land thought that the children looked very smart and professional yesterday afternoon and they represented the Park Grove very well.
