At the start of the Spring 2 term, to reignite our learning of the Victorians, all KS2 classes enjoyed a mini field trip around the local area, stepping back into Victorian York to explore the former workhouse on Huntington Road! The children really enjoyed looking at the building and talking about what it must have been like to live there. During the field trip, we observed and discussed the key changes from when it was first built and used to what the workhouse building itself and the surrounding area is like now. Back in class, we looked at maps from 1852 and 1909 to see how the area developed during the Industrial Revolution, building upon what we had seen for ourselves when walking around the area.
