Football Match Report: Park Grove 2 – St Wilfrid’s 2

On a murky Thursday afternoon, Park Grove girls’ played their second league fixture of the season at home against St Wilfrid’s Primary School. Park Grove started the match strongly however, some strong attacking from St Wilfrid’s led to a goal.

Park Grove continued to play well and there was some fantastic passing from Olivia Gargan and Callie Bradley to ensure Park Grove had good possession of the ball. Unfortunately, St Wilfrid’s secured themselves a second goal leaving Park Grove trailing behind by 2 goals to nil.

The girls all continued to work hard, and with some brilliant tackling from Nicola Nicholson and Mollie Furey, Park Grove were on the attack.  Chelsea Haskins used her skills to dribble the ball past the defence line and just before the half time whistle blew, Lucy Noble managed to hit the back of the net leaving the half time score at 2-1 to St Wilfrid’s.

The second half was a very even affair with chances at both ends. Park Grove continued to show their passion for the sport with Ivy Tegetmeier producing a fantastic long range shot which nearly flew into the goal. Aruma Wormald continued to produce some fantastic saves which left the strike force of St Wilfrid’s shocked and goalless! Park Grove continued to press forward with brilliant passing down the left hand side from Lucy Noble, Chelsea Haskins and Emma Crowther.

St Wilfrid’s continued to attack but with fantastic goalkeeping and strong defending Park Grove were able to deliver the ball forward. A good partnership between Avalon Treyelan-Cresswell and Millie Hughes up front ensured that Park Grove kept possession. As the match drew to a close, Park Grove’s Lucy Noble took the final kick of the match to score a last-minute equaliser. Final score 2-2.

There were many star performers from this match, including two impressive goals from Lucy Noble but taking the woman of the match award was Aruma Wormald, whose superb goalkeeping was pivotal in ensuring Park Grove ended with a draw.

Our next match will take place against Heworth Primary School at home on Thursday 16th of June.
