Football Report – Fishergate 1 Park Grove 4

On Tuesday 25th March, Park Grove travelled to Fishergate Primary School for their last away league fixture of the season. In spite of the gloomy and murky conditions, Park Grove approached the game in high spirits buoyed by the positive second half display against Dunnington on Monday. The match started off quickly with Park Grove’s energetic and fast-flowing possession football a joy to behold for the spectators.

This excellent play was rewarded when a mesmeric run from Max Rigby allowed Robby Butler to bury the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net.  This meant Park Grove had scored the first goal in a match for the first time this season! The momentum created from the goal continued  when a well-timed Jacob Martindale run down the left was expertly turned home by Jordan Colebourn. The difficult skill of finishing with the outside of the boot under pressure made this goal even better. Park Grove led 2-0 at the break.

Max Rigby delightful passing in the first half was rewarded with a deserved goal from a rebound in the box to give Park Grove a three goal lead, early in the second half. However, Fishergate showed some fight and when a corner wasn’t cleared; they reduced the deficit to just two goals. However, Max Rigby ensured there would be no slip-ups with a goal direct from a corner! The full time result was Fishergate 1 Park Grove 4.

Max Rigby had his best match of the season so far, displaying numerous moments of high quality at both ends of the pitch. Robby Butler captained the team well throughout and but for the crossbar would have netted a well-deserved hat trick. Alfie Stewart’s vision and versatility was also a real plus point for the team.
